Instructions for Newborn Photography Session

Congratulations on the birth of your baby! To make our session a success I am sending some tips your way.

For the easiest and smoothest session, your baby should be sleeping for the session. This is achieved best when the baby has a full belly of milk. Be prepared to breastfeed/bottle feed the baby throughout our session to get him or her back to sleep. We often have to take breaks to get the baby back to sleep. Most sessions last anywhere from 1½ to 2 hrs. I move the baby around into different positions, which tends to disturb their sleep. Bring your patience with you!

If you have cloth diapers at home, have the baby wear a cloth diaper prior to the session. This keeps the baby’s skin nice and smooth in the photo. If you do not have a cloth diaper, just make sure that you keep the baby dry prior to arriving. The hour or two prior, make sure the diaper stays dry and change him/her as soon as the diaper is wet.

If you would like to take photos with the baby, there is no additional charge. Just bring a solid color (preferably long sleeve) shirt, usually black or white. If dad is to be included have him do the same so that everyone has the same color.

Bring a pacifier, if not opposed. It will help our session run smoother.

You are welcome to bring any props, headbands, blankets or sentimental items that you would like included in the session.

I will make a few announcement samples also if you are interested. Please let me know.

I use window light and sometimes book more than one appt on any given day, so please try to arrive on time. If you have any questions feel free to mail me at kellievaldez73@yahoo.com or you can call me at 916.508.3337.
